What's next?
An additional tax on water in the form of residential water meters .
In the latest issue of the Langley Advance, tuesday August 14, 2007 (http://www.canada.com/langleyadvance/news/opinion/story.html
?id=2779eb4a-2006-4d3e-861e-aff9b9847bec&k=1676), editor Bob Groenveld dictates that we must all pay for our water (because other citys meter and bill for water use).
Despite the Langleys having a very low residential water usage in comparison with other areas, he seems to think it's appropriate to use his high visibility and position to skew the view once again.
Judging from previous episodes, the township's elected officials will most likely see that editorial as a whole hearted endorsement of this tax grab, not only by the Langley Advance, but by the majority of it's readers.
It's unfortunate that this one individual has the power to promote his own agendas without a thought for the already over taxed residents of this formerly rather nice area.
Sure, you can write letters to the editor and some of them may actually be printed.
But if you think that will make any difference in the rush to urnabize Langley, you're out of touch.
Who this Bob Groenveld really is, or what could possibly motivate him to promote more taxation, cheer on massive building developments, and advocate the destruction of our rural lifestyles, I don't know.
But I picture a rented apartment somewhere downtown, probably above a coffee house where he networks with wealthy buisness owners, dreams up these yuppy schemes, and doesn't ever have to worry about paying water or property taxes himself.
I'd imagine Bob likely cares little about our grassy meadows, shady rural laneways, and struggling vegetable gardens while he's sipping latte's with a bunch of suits.
I just hope the coffee house passes on these new water taxes in the price of that latte ;)
